The Dutch language has so called separable and inseparable verbs. In this part we will give more information on separable verbs: verbs that in a sentence can be divided into two parts. Each time the Dutch words and sentences are displayed in the picture. We start with the verb "to take".
1. what we see is the complete verb: to take (with me)
2. the translation is: I take the book (with me). In this sentence the first part of the verb is completely shifted to the end.
3. you take the book (with you). In this sentence the first part of the verb is completely shifted to the end.
4. I have to take the book (with me). Now the complete verb is shifted to the end of the sentence. In this case there is a second verb: to have. The forst part indicates what "I have to do" and finally the verb at the end indicates the action.
5. We see that the verb consists of two parts: one part is indicated in red and one in blue. The red part corresponds to "with" and the red part corresponds to "take".
6. Now we see that the first part of the verb is shifted to the end.
